Easy Leaf Products and Society of Gilders Help Restore NOLA Landmarks
LOS ANGELES (January 16, 2009) – Easy Leaf Products and The Society of Gilders announce they are doing their part to help restore New Orleans the week of Monday, January 19, 2009 through Friday, January 23, 2009. Easy Leaf Products will furnish genuine gold leaf necessary for the project and thirty to forty members of Society of Gilders are not only donating their time, but also generously paying for their own travel and lodging expenses to participate.
During the project, gilders will be restoring damaged frames at Louisiana State Museum (751 Chartres Street) and gilding angel sculptures (near the altar), various medallions and decorations throughout St. Alphonsus Church (2030 Constance Street).
Starting Wednesday, January 21 through Friday, January 23, the gilding process will be open to the public at the Louisiana State Museum; NOLA residents and tourists are encouraged to view the gilding process.
This restoration mission is part of an ongoing project that originally started in 2007 when the Society of Gilders committed to annual visits for the next five years in an effort to repair damage from Hurricane Katrina. In 2007, members of the Society of Gilders assisted in the specific process of analyzing, determining treatment plans, and participation in the beginning stages of restoration of gilded objects.
